You’ve done it! After weeks of waiting in anticipation, you and your significant other have escaped the office, broken free of routine and are on your way to a well-earned holiday in beautiful Fiji!
Soon, you’ll be touching down the tropical paradise of Nadi – an oasis where you’ll really be able to rest and relax. With everything from convenient beach access to a day spa, there’s more than enough at the resort to keep you occupied, but if you can ever bear to leave, there are plenty of great, romantic day trips to be taken in the nearby areas.
Here are two of the best!
1. Garden of the Sleeping Giant
This paradise has only recently been opened to the public, but it’s quickly become one of the most popular destinations in Fiji. A horticultural wonderland with peaceful ponds dotted here and there, walking through the garden is a bit like stepping into another world as you leisurely explore the shaded boardwalks. Tucked away at the foot of the Sleeping Giant Mountain, this valley once housed the private collection of Hollywood star Raymond Burr, but has since been turned into a garden where anybody can come and enjoy the natural beauty.
Located just over half an hour’s drive from Wyndham Resort Denarau Island, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant can be easily reached by one of the frequent tour buses departing from the Denarau resort area. The trip’s undisputed highlight is the vast collection of gorgeous orchids, which are equal parts fragile and beautiful. This is one journey not to be missed for couples with green thumbs.
2. Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple
You may have thought that to really experience the splendour, colour, and energy of a Hindu temple, you’d have to head to India. In most cases, you’d be right, but Nadi plays host to one of the most impressive examples to be found in the world – the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple.
This temple is one of the only chances couples will get to see Dravidian architecture outside of India, and with the carvings having been shipped over to Fiji, the experience is completely authentic. Be aware that you can’t take photos inside, which will give you all the more reason to simply take in the experience with your partner.
